What's For Lunch?

I built What’s For Lunch, a mobile-first dining discovery platform specifically for the staff at Biltmore Church, designed to simplify the daily challenge of deciding where to eat across our multiple campuses. What began as a fun side project has since evolved into an indispensable tool that many staff members rely on every day. The platform helps staff explore nearby restaurants, see what’s popular, and share recommendations directly with colleagues in their department. Its key strength lies in helping users discover new places by showing them a list of restaurants they’ve never been to, complete with tailored feedback from their immediate coworkers. This feature effectively eliminates the usual back-and-forth debate over where to go for lunch.

Platforms & Features

To ensure a seamless experience for everyone, What’s For Lunch is available as a slick, responsive website that works perfectly on desktop and mobile, as well as a dedicated native app for both iOS and iPadOS. The platform is packed with thoughtful technical features, including live travel time estimates to any location, optimized WebP images for fast loading, and a clean interface that surfaces department-specific feedback. Access is kept secure and simple, with a seamless login process that uses only @biltmorechurch.com email addresses. The entire experience was built from the ground up to be quick, intuitive, and genuinely helpful in making the daily lunch decision a little bit easier and more collaborative.
